DUBAI, UAE
Rafael Duran successfully completed his first-ever 24-hour endurance race this weekend at the 21st Michelin 24H of Dubai, crossing the finish line with Dinamic GT despite a challenging race for most of the field.
Driving the #24 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), Duran and his teammates - Krahn, Pieris, Sager, and Whiteside - finished 7th in the GT3-AM class and 22nd overall among GT3 competitors. The squad completed a total of 541 laps around the Dubai Autodrome, clocking a fastest race time of 1:59.369.
The race served as a significant learning curve for Duran, marking only his second outing in the Porsche GT3 R machinery, a departure from the Ferrari he typically campaigns. The weekend showed great promise for the Dinamic GT entry, but their charge for the top positions was hampered by contact during the race. Despite the setback, the team rallied to repair the car and return to the track, demonstrating the grit required for endurance racing by seeing the checkered flag.
"It was a weekend to learn, and prepare for the season ahead" Duran noted of his debut. The experience gained fighting back from adversity in the grueling 24-hour format provides a strong foundation for the season ahead.
Duran now turns his focus to his next challenge at the GTWC Prologue, scheduled for April 8-9.
